What is a teaching assistant’s role?
As an English, Science or Maths graduate teaching assistant you will be required to provide 1:1 and group support to Year 7 to Year 13 students and also provide small group intervention groups. You would also lead revision sessions in the run up to GCSE and A-Level exams. You would be provided with support and direction from the teachers and Head of Department.
This English, Maths or Science Graduate Teaching Assistant role is ideal for graduates that are looking for a route into teaching and you would be entitled Schools Direct training the following year should you excel. This is a great alternative to the PGCE as it’s free of charge and the school will support you with the training to become a qualified teacher.
What type of teaching assistant are schools looking for?
As an English, Science and Maths Graduate Teaching Assistant, you must be a recent university graduate with a 2:1 or higher degree. The Head Teachers are keen to recruit a number of confident, articulate and personable Graduate Teaching Assistants who are available from September. You must enjoy working with secondary school students and be available for the entire academic year which lasts from September to July. You will be paid from £60 to £80 per day depending on experience.
