What is a teaching assistant’s role in the classroom?
As an English, Science, Maths graduate teaching assistant you will be required to provide 1:1 and group help and support with students in classrooms from Year 7 to Year 13 and also provide small group intervention groups. You will be provided with keen support and direction from the teachers and Head of Department.
This English, Maths and Science Graduate Teaching Assistant role is ideal for aspiring Teachers and there is clear progression in the role as you will be entitled to Schools Direct training the following year should you excel in the role. This is a great alternative to the PGCE as it’s free of charge and the school will support you with the training to become a qualified teacher.
What type of teaching assistant are schools looking for?
As an English, Science and Maths Graduate Teaching Assistant, you must be a 2017 or 2018 graduate with a 2:1 or higher degree. The Head Teachers are keen to recruit a number of confident, articulate and personable Graduate Teaching Assistants who are available from September. You must enjoy working with secondary school students and be available for the entire academic year. You will be paid from £60 to £80 per day depending on experience.
